How to Read an Umrah Quote
A good Umrah quote names every hotel, room type and meal plan, states how each hotel reaches the Haram, lists flights, transfers and visa support as included or excluded, explains the price basis and occupancy, says what is confirmed and what is still on request, and sets out the deposit, payment dates, validity and cancellation terms.

Quick answers
- What should an Umrah quote include?
- The travelers and room sharing, dates and nights in each city, named hotels with room type, meal plan and distance to the Haram, flights with baggage, transfers, visa support, what is excluded, the price basis, validity and payment and cancellation terms.
- What does per person by occupancy mean?
- The price for each traveler depends on how many share the room: double, triple or quad. Fewer people per room means a higher price per person.
- What does subject to availability mean on a quote?
- The item has been requested or priced but not yet confirmed. It is confirmed only once the airline, hotel or supplier confirms it in writing.
- How long is a quote valid?
- Your quote states its validity date. Airfares and hotel rates can change after that date, and fares are not held until ticketed.
A written quote is the most important document in planning Umrah. It is what you compare, what you accept and what you rely on if something changes. Here is how to read one line by line, what each section should tell you and the red flags to look for.
The sections of a good quote
| Section | What it should say | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Travelers and occupancy | Names, ages and room sharing (double, triple or quad) | Children’s ages and bedding; whether the price is per person |
| Dates and nights | Arrival and departure dates; nights in Makkah and Madinah | Nights match your flights and leave |
| Hotels | Hotel names, room type, view, meal plan | Exactly which hotel, not “or similar”, and which meals |
| Distance to the Haram | How each hotel is reached: walk or shuttle, with hills or tunnels noted | Suits every traveler’s mobility |
| Flights | Airline, routing, times, baggage, fare rules, status | One ticket; change and refund rules; “subject to confirmation” items |
| Transfers and train | Each leg and its type: private car, coach or train | Which legs are included |
| Visa and permits | Whether visa support is included | Your passports’ validity; Nusuk steps |
| Extras | Ziyarat, guide, meals beyond breakfast | Included or optional |
| Exclusions | What is not included | Anything you assumed was included |
| Price basis and validity | Per person by occupancy, currency, valid-until date | What happens after the date passes |
| Payment and cancellation | Deposit, payment dates, cancellation terms by date | Non-refundable parts |
Confirmed vs on request
Every item on a quote is in one of two states. Confirmed means the airline, hotel or supplier has confirmed it in writing. On request, subject to availability means it has been priced or requested but could still change. Flights are not held until ticketed, and train seats are not confirmed until tickets are issued. A clear quote tells you which is which.
Understanding the price
- Per person by occupancy: the price each traveler pays depends on how many share the room; see Umrah Room Sharing Explained
- Air-inclusive or land-only: whether international flights are in the price
- Children: child pricing depends on age and supplier rules
- Season: Ramadan, Thanksgiving, December and spring break cost more
For what drives the numbers, see What Affects Umrah Package Prices and our guide to how much Umrah costs from the USA.
Comparing two quotes
Quotes only compare fairly when the same things are included. Line them up on:
- The same hotels, room types and meal plans
- The same number of nights in each city
- The same occupancy
- Flights included or not, with the same baggage
- The same transfers and train legs
- Similar cancellation terms
Examples
- A New York family of four comparing two quotes: one includes breakfast and private transfers, the other does not; once matched, the gap narrows
- A Houston couple on a land-only quote: the quote lists hotel check-in and check-out times, so they can buy flights that match
- A Los Angeles group: the quote shows the train as on request, with a coach as the fallback if seats are not available
A worked example, in words
Here is how a clear quote for a Chicago family of four might read, section by section, without the prices:
- Travelers: two adults and two children aged 8 and 12, sharing one quad room in each city
- Dates: arrive Madinah December 20, four nights; Makkah December 24, six nights; depart Jeddah December 30
- Hotels: each named, with room type, breakfast included and a description such as “about a 5-minute level walk to the mosque gates”
- Flights: airline, flight numbers, one connection, two checked bags each, “subject to confirmation until ticketed”
- Transfers: private van at Madinah airport; train Madinah to Makkah on request, subject to availability, with a road fallback; private van Makkah to Jeddah airport
- Excluded: lunches and dinners, ziyarat, travel insurance
- Terms: price per person by occupancy, valid until a stated date, deposit and payment dates, and cancellation terms by date
Words you will see
- Ticketed: the airline has issued the ticket; before that, a fare can change
- Non-refundable: a rate or fare that cannot be refunded if you cancel, and sometimes cannot be changed
- Haram view or city view: the outlook from the room, which affects the price
- Bed and breakfast, half board: breakfast only, or breakfast and one other meal
- Option or hold date: how long a price or room is held before it is released
Red flags
- “Hotel or similar” with no named property
- No description of how the hotel reaches the Haram
- Flights with no airline, routing or baggage stated
- No validity date or cancellation terms
- Pressure to pay before you have a written quote
- Promises of guaranteed visas, Rawdah appointments or facilities

Frequently asked questions
Why do two quotes for the same hotel differ?
Check the room type, view, meal plan, number of nights, occupancy and whether flights and transfers are included. Quotes are only comparable when these match. See what affects Umrah package prices.
Is the visa included in the price?
Only if the quote lists it as included. Some packages include visa support; others leave the visa to you through the official portal. If it is not listed as included, treat it as excluded.
What is a distance descriptor?
A plain description of how each hotel reaches the Haram, such as a short walk or a shuttle, with any hills or tunnels noted. It is more useful than a single number. See Hotel Proximity Explained.
Can I ask for changes to a quote?
Yes. Ask for a revised quote with a different hotel, room sharing or dates; it costs nothing until you accept. See When Umrah Plans Change for changes after booking.
What should I check before accepting an Umrah quote?
Check that the names, dates and departure airport are right, then read the hotel names, room types and number of nights in each city, the flights and baggage, the transfers, what is excluded, the total and per-person price, the payment schedule, the cancellation terms and how long the price is held. If two quotes look similar, compare the hotels’ real walking distance and the exclusions first. Our guide on how to read an Umrah quote walks through it line by line.
Are there additional expenses beyond the package price?
Usually a few, and your quote lists what is not included. Common extras are meals beyond breakfast, local taxis, a Saudi SIM or eSIM, checked bags beyond the fare’s allowance, travel insurance if you buy it separately, wheelchair hire, personal ziyarat, laundry and gifts. Budget for getting to your U.S. departure airport as well. Our Umrah budget guide lists the costs people most often forget.
Can my hotel change after I receive a quote?
Before you accept, yes: the hotels and prices in a quote are held only for the period it states, and rooms can sell out or rates can rise after that. If a hotel becomes unavailable, we tell you and offer alternatives rather than swapping it silently. Once you have booked, any later substitution is covered by the booking terms in your written quote; see hotel substitution.
How can I check what is excluded?
Read the “Not included” section of your package page and written quote; anything not listed as included should be treated as excluded. Pay particular attention to meals, visa fees, the train, ziyarat, baggage, tips, and transfers on days you travel independently. If a line is unclear, ask before you accept. Our guide on reading an Umrah quote shows where to look.
How do I receive my final itemized quotation?
By email, from your specialist, once your details and preferences are confirmed and live availability has been checked. Every component is itemized and priced in U.S. dollars, and the quote shows the date until which its price is held. If you ask for changes, you receive a revised written quote rather than a verbal update, so you always know which version you are accepting.
