Spring Break Umrah 2027: Dates, Deadlines and Planning

In 2027, spring break falls just after Ramadan and Eid and runs into the end of the Umrah season: the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah set March 23, 2027 as the last entry date on an Umrah visa. Breaks in early to mid-March can work; April breaks fall outside the season for Umrah visa holders.

Quick answers

Can I perform Umrah over spring break 2027?
If your break starts early enough. For 1448 AH, the last entry date on an Umrah visa is March 23, 2027 and the last departure date is April 7, 2027, as announced by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
Which spring break weeks work in 2027?
Breaks in early and mid-March generally fit. A break starting the week of March 22 works only if you enter by March 23. Breaks starting from late March or in April fall after the last entry date.
Does spring break 2027 overlap Ramadan?
Mostly not. Ramadan is expected to run from around February 8 to March 9 or 10, 2027, so early-March breaks may catch the end of Ramadan and Eid, and later ones come just after.
Is spring break Umrah busy?
Often, especially just after Eid, when many pilgrims travel before the season closes. Book early.

Spring break looks like a natural window for a family Umrah, and in many years it is. In 2027, though, the calendar is unusual: Ramadan ends around March 9 or 10, and the Umrah season for international visitors closes a few weeks later ahead of Hajj. Whether your break works depends on the exact week your school or college gives you.

Before you choose dates: as of October 21, 2026, the U.S. State Department rates Saudi Arabia Level 3, “Reconsider travel” (advisory issued October 12, 2026), and reports that commercial flights have at times been significantly disrupted. Read the current advisory before booking and before departure, enroll in STEP, and favor changeable fares and insurance that covers disruption and medical evacuation.

The deadlines that matter

For the 1448 AH season, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that Umrah visas are issued from May 31, 2026, with a last issue date of March 9, 2027, a last entry date of March 23, 2027 and a last departure date of April 7, 2027, before the pause for Hajj. Check the official announcement and Nusuk again before you book, because these dates are set by the authorities and can be updated.

Date (2027)What happens
Around February 8Ramadan expected to begin (moon sighting)
March 9Last day Umrah visas are issued
Around March 9 or 10Eid al-Fitr expected

April 7Last departure for Umrah visa holders

Which break weeks fit

U.S. spring breaks run from early March to mid-April depending on the district or college, and many are tied to Easter, which falls on March 28 in 2027.

Sample plans

A Virginia family, break starting March 15

Depart Washington Dulles after school on Friday, March 12, arrive in Jeddah on Saturday, four nights in Makkah, train to Madinah, three nights there and fly home on Saturday, March 20, leaving Sunday to recover. Seven nights, comfortably inside the season.

A Chicago college student, break starting March 8

Depart O’Hare on Friday, March 5, with one connection, and spend the last days of Ramadan and Eid in Makkah. Expect the season’s highest prices and crowds, and apply for the visa early, since the last issue date is March 9.

A Texas family, break starting March 22

Possible only with an arrival on or before March 23. Leaving Houston or Dallas on Friday, March 19 or Saturday, March 20 gives a margin for connections. Any delay that pushes arrival past March 23 risks the trip, so choose a changeable fare.

A California family, break starting April 5

Not possible on an Umrah visa in 2027. Consider Thanksgiving or the December break, or a break later in 2027 once the new season opens.

After Eid: what to expect

The weeks after Eid al-Fitr are busy in a particular way. Many pilgrims who could not travel in Ramadan arrive before the season closes, and hotels near the Haram fill. The mood is calmer than in the last ten nights, but you should still expect crowds at every prayer and book early. Prices often ease from their Ramadan peak but rarely drop to quiet-month levels.

If your break does not fit in 2027

  • Ask your school about a week earlier: some families add a few days before an early-March break
  • Look at Thanksgiving or December 2027: see Thanksgiving and December Umrah
  • Wait for the new season: Umrah reopens for visitors after Hajj, on dates the Ministry announces each year; summer heat is the trade-off
  • Adults only: a parent or older sibling may be able to travel at a quieter time and bring the family later

Why spring break is different from December

  • Season deadlines: December has none nearby; spring break 2027 sits against the end of the season
  • Eid crowds: early-March trips meet the end of Ramadan and Eid
  • Weather: warmer than December, but well short of summer heat
  • Time: usually one week, so seven nights is the realistic length

Spring break checklist

  • Find your exact break dates, district by district or college by college
  • Check your arrival date against March 23 and your departure against April 7
  • Apply for visas well before March 9
  • Choose changeable fares and arrive with a margin
  • Book early: demand after Eid is high

Frequently asked questions

My child’s spring break is the first week of April. Is there any option?

For Umrah visa holders, not in 2027: entry after March 23 is outside the announced season. Rules for other visa types around the Hajj period are set by the authorities each year, so check Nusuk and the eVisa portal. Otherwise, consider Thanksgiving, December or a later break once the new season opens.

When do I need my visa by?

For 1448 AH, March 9, 2027 is the last day Umrah visas are issued. Apply well before that, because demand is high around Ramadan.

Can college students use spring break?

Yes. Many colleges break in early to mid-March, which fits the 2027 season. A group trip can be a good fit for students traveling without family, when one is offered.

What happens if my flight home is delayed past April 7?

Contact the airline and us immediately. Do not overstay your visa; overstays can bring fines and other consequences. Planning to leave well before the last departure date gives you a buffer.

Can I arrange Umrah during spring break?

Often, yes, but check the season dates first. In 2027, Ramadan runs from about February 8 to early March and the Umrah season for visa holders closes in early April, so a late-March or April spring break may fall near or after the cut-off. The dates are set by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah each year. Read spring break Umrah and tell us your school’s dates.
