Planning Umrah from the USA
How Booking an Umrah Trip from the USA Works, Step by Step
Booking Umrah from the USA usually follows six steps: share your brief, receive a written quote, accept it and pay the stated deposit, submit visa details, receive confirmations and get your final travel documents. Here is what happens at each step and what to check.

Quick answers
- How do I book an Umrah trip from the USA?
- Share your dates, departure airport, travelers and priorities; review a written, itemized quote; accept it and pay the deposit it states; provide passport details for visas; then receive confirmations and final documents.
- When is an Umrah booking confirmed?
- When you have accepted a written quote, paid what it asks for, and received confirmations for flights and hotels. A quote on its own reserves nothing.
- What details do I need to start?
- Approximate travel month, U.S. departure airport, number and ages of travelers, budget range, hotel priorities and any mobility or health needs. Passport details come later.
Booking Umrah from the USA usually takes six steps: you share a brief, receive a written itemized quote, accept it and pay the deposit it states, provide passport details for visas, receive flight and hotel confirmations, and get final travel documents. Nothing should be booked, and no money should change hands, until you have a written quote that lists what is included, what is not and the terms that apply.

The six steps at a glance
| Step | What happens | What you check |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Brief | You share dates, airport, travelers, budget and priorities | Everyone agrees on dates and budget |
| 2. Quote | You receive a written, itemized quote | Hotels, distances, flights, inclusions, exclusions, terms |
| 3. Accept and deposit | You accept in writing and pay what the quote states | Payment schedule, cancellation terms, what is refundable |
| 4. Visa details | You provide passport details for each traveler | Names exactly as in passports; validity |
| 5. Confirmations | Flights ticketed, hotels confirmed | Dates, names, room types, baggage |
| 6. Final documents | Itinerary, vouchers, visas and pre-departure notes | Transfer times, contacts, Nusuk permit plan |
Step 1: Share your planning brief
A good brief saves days of back-and-forth. Include:
- Travel window, and how flexible it is.
- U.S. departure airport and any airline preferences.
- Number of travelers, ages of children and any older or less mobile relatives.
- Budget range per person and what matters most: walking distance, nonstop flights, room privacy or price.
- Nights preferred in Makkah and Madinah, and which city first.
- The passport each traveler holds. This decides the visa route.
You do not need passport numbers at this stage. For security, do not send passport images or card details by chat or email; if documents are needed later, ask how to provide them securely.
Step 2: Review the written quote
A quote is where vague promises become specifics. Look for the hotel names in each city and how each is reached from the Haram, room type and occupancy, flight routing, baggage, transfers, what visa support is included, the price in USD, how long the price is held and the payment and cancellation terms. If anything is marked “subject to confirmation,” ask what that means and when it will be confirmed. Our guide to reading an Umrah quote goes line by line.
Step 3: Accept and pay the deposit
When you accept, you agree to the terms in the quote. Read the cancellation section carefully: airfares can become non-refundable once ticketed, and some hotel rates are non-refundable at any point. Pay using a method that gives you a record, and keep the receipt. The FTC’s advice on travel scams is worth reading before paying any travel company. For more on deposits and refunds, see Umrah deposits, cancellations and refunds.
Step 4: Provide details for visas
Each traveler needs a visa that allows Umrah. U.S. citizens can apply for the Saudi tourist eVisa on the official portal; an Umrah visa is issued with a package bought from an approved provider on the Nusuk Umrah platform. Where your quote includes visa support, our advisors can help you prepare the application, but the decision belongs to the Saudi authorities and no one can guarantee approval. Names must match passports exactly, including middle names. Our guide to Saudi visa options for Umrah compares the routes.
Step 5: Confirmations
Once flights are ticketed and hotels confirmed, check every confirmation the day you receive it. Wrong spellings, a missing child or the wrong room type are far easier to fix now than at a check-in desk in Makkah.
Step 6: Final documents and permits
Before departure you should have your itinerary, hotel vouchers, transfer details, visa copies, emergency contacts and notes on what to do on arrival. Umrah permits and Rawdah appointments are booked in the Nusuk app, usually by the traveler, close to the date; we explain how in our Nusuk guide.
Booking for a group or an extended family
Larger bookings follow the same six steps with a little more coordination. Nominate one lead contact who gathers everyone’s details and passes on decisions. Agree in writing who shares which room before the quote is accepted, since rooming changes later can affect the price. Collect passport expiry dates for everyone at the brief stage; one expired passport can hold up a whole group’s visas. Decide early how payments will be split, and keep a simple list of who has paid what. Our guide to planning a large group Umrah covers this in detail.
If something changes after you book
Tell your agency straight away, in writing. Whether a change is possible, and what it costs, depends on the airline’s fare rules and the hotel’s terms in your quote. A change of dates may also mean new Nusuk permit times and, for an Umrah visa, checking the season’s last entry and departure dates. A name correction is usually easier than a name change, so check spellings the day confirmations arrive. Read when Umrah plans change for the options.
A hypothetical example
A family of four from Dallas wants ten nights over spring break. They send a brief in November, receive a quote with two hotel options in Makkah, one a short walk from the Haram and one a shuttle hotel, and choose the closer one after comparing the difference. They accept in December, provide passport details in January and receive confirmations within days. In March they book their Umrah permit in Nusuk for the afternoon they arrive.
Before you book: a short safety check
Before you book and again before you fly: when we checked on October 21, 2026, the U.S. State Department’s advisory for Saudi Arabia was Level 3, “Reconsider travel” (issued October 12, 2026), citing risks that include regional armed conflict, missile and drone attacks, terrorism and exit bans. Read the current advisory, enroll in STEP and choose travel insurance that covers medical evacuation and trip disruption.
Start with a brief
If you are ready to see real options, send us your planning brief and a specialist will reply with an itemized quote. If you prefer to book flights yourself, browse land-only packages. Before choosing any provider, read our list of questions to ask an Umrah agency.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a quoted Umrah price valid?
For as long as the quote says. Hotel and airline prices change often, so quotes carry an expiry date. After that date the trip has to be re-priced against live availability.
Is it safe to send passport copies by email?
Email is not a secure way to send passport images. Share passport details only when they are needed for visas or tickets, and use the secure method your provider explains. Never send card numbers by email or chat.
Can I book my own flights and only book hotels and transfers?
Yes. That is a land-only booking. Check that your flight times match your hotel check-in and check-out dates before you buy tickets. See land-only versus air and land.
What happens if a flight time changes after I book?
Airlines sometimes change schedules after ticketing. You or your agency should be notified, and the change may affect transfers, hotel nights or Nusuk permit times. Check new times against your plan and ask about your options straight away.
How do I book an Umrah package from the USA?
Tell us your travel month, departure city, how many people are traveling and what matters most to you, through Plan My Umrah or a package page. A specialist checks real flight and hotel availability and sends a written, itemized quote. When you accept it, you pay through a secure payment page and we book; after that we guide you through visas, Nusuk and preparation.
The booking process guide walks through each step, and our first Umrah guide covers the planning order.
What information do you need to prepare a quote?
The essentials are your travel month (or exact dates), your nearest U.S. airport, the number of adults and children with the children’s ages, and how you would like to share rooms. It also helps to know your budget range, how close to the Haram you want to stay, whether this is anyone’s first Umrah and any mobility or health needs. Passport details are not needed for a quote. You can share all of this in Plan My Umrah.
What happens after I submit an enquiry?
A specialist reviews your request and contacts you by your preferred method to confirm the details and ask anything that is missing. We then check live flight and hotel availability and send a written, itemized quote. You can ask questions, request changes or simply decline; nothing is reserved or charged at this stage. Our booking process guide covers each step.
How do I receive my final itemized quotation?
By email, from your specialist, once your details and preferences are confirmed and live availability has been checked. Every component is itemized and priced in U.S. dollars, and the quote shows the date until which its price is held. If you ask for changes, you receive a revised written quote rather than a verbal update, so you always know which version you are accepting.
